Right Sensor Technology in the Right Place

We offer four different technology options in our cylinder position sensors; potentiometer, hall effect, inductive and magnetostrictive, to provide sensors with a continuous signal over the entire stroke length.

Many of our cylinder sensors can be installed without the need for soldering cables.

Potentiometer

Our potentiometric cylinder sensors are designed in-house and are well-suited for applications requiring high repeatability for absolute positioning.

The PS6500 cylinder sensor, manufactured by us, is a cost-effective alternative.

Hall Effect

Our cylinder sensors with Hall effect technology feature non-contact measuring, resulting in a superior lifespan and high linearity.

The compact design includes built-in electronics, simplifying installation and providing a cost-effective solution. These cylinder sensors are versatile and applicable in a broad range of applications.

Our latest cylinder sensor, the SenseAI RSL51, incorporates both Hall Effect and AI technology to deliver a robust, reliable, rapid, and adaptable sensory system.

Inductive

The inductive cylinder sensors have the advantage of being non-contact during movement, eliminating mechanical wear and significantly extending application life.

This technology can also meet high linearity demands.

Inductive cylinder sensors have a compact design with small dead zones, meaning that the total mechanical length is close to the active electrical stroke. The sensor probe has an operating temperature ranging from -40°C to 155°C.

Magnetostrictive

For applications where linearity and reliability are paramount, even in strongly magnetic environments, magnetostrictive cylinder sensors are the optimal choice.

These non-contact sensors ensure an exceptional lifespan and offer markedly higher precision compared to inductive and Hall effect types.

Our magnetostrictive cylinder sensors are available with either analog or digital outputs, depending on application needs.

Frequently Asked Questions about Cylinder Sensors

What is a cylinder sensor?

A cylinder sensor is a linear sensor designed to measure the position of a piston or actuator inside a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder.

Which cylinder sensor technology should I choose?

Choose based on the application. Potentiometric sensors are a practical choice for absolute positioning and cost-sensitive applications, Hall-effect sensors suit compact non-contact measurement, inductive sensors are useful when wear resistance matters, and magnetostrictive sensors are best when high precision and reliability are the priority.

What output signals are available for the cylinder sensors?

We offer several output options for our cylinder sensors including voltage divider, 0.5–4.5 VDC, 0–10 V, 4–20 mA, SSI, incremental, CANopen, CAN SAE J1939, and Profibus DPV0 depending on model. The right output depends on the control system or PLC the sensor will connect to.

What stroke lengths are available for the cylinder sensors?

The cylinder sensors cover a wide range of strokes, from short-stroke models such as 15 mm up to long-stroke models up to 7 500 mm.

Do these cylinder sensors need contact with moving parts?

Not always. Our non-contact cylinder sensors, using Hall-effect, inductive, or magnetostrictive technology, help to reduce wear and extend service life. The potentiometric models are positioned differently using a so called wiper and are a cost-effective absolute-position option.

Are cylinder sensor connectors and magnets available?

Yes. We offer cylinder magnets and multiple connector options, including MIL-C-26482 and M12 A-code versions, along with an M12 solder-free connector.
